I have a MF165 Perkins Deisel, and was wondering if it has IPTO or not. three gears on lever it has Ground, Neutral, and Engange on the lever.
The reason I ask is when I put on the Bush Hog, Hay Bine, or Square or Round Baler I have to shut the tractor off before I can get the PTO engaged. But with no Implements on it I can put it right in. Any help is greatly app.
Is there any way to fix the problem ? Its Starting to chap my you know what every time I have to use it.

Back in the 60s when I first got my 165 gas I had to do the same thing your were doing. I solved my problem when I found there was two holes into which you could connect the little connecting rod on the clutch pedal. In one you pushed all the way down but did not push far enough to completely disengage the clutch with the other one it went futher down allowing the clutch to fully disengage. That is how the two stage clutch works on mine. Maybe this might be your problem.

You peobably need to make the internal pto clutch adjustment up through the inspection hole in the bottom of the bellhousing. If you will send me an email address I will send you a picture showing how to make that adjustment.

Marty, you have a dual stage clutch, not i.p.t.o. Sounds like you have a stuck pto olate or it needs adjusting if it grinds when the pto grinds when you try to engage lever to 540 engine speed (back). regards, sibby.

Sibby thanks for the info, and yes it grinds like the dickens when you try to engage the 540 pto. Will try to adjust the clutch and keep my fingers crossed that will take care of it.

You are pushing the clutch pedal all the way down when you try to engage the pto aren't you?

Yes I am pushing the Clutch pedal to the floor panel, with the tractor idled down, or reved up and nothing changes.
