I have a 1950 MH22 and have run it routinely for over two years with little problems. This winter it quit while plowing, appeared to run out of gas - but there was plenty there. I have done all the normal stuf - tune up, carb kit, plugs, etc... Compression is great. The rad froze this winter once, but not severly and there seems to be no damage. It starts great and runs well for about 5mins - then it just starts to sputter and run rough like it is getting no gas, but there seems to be good flow. The floats seem good, set well - the whole carb is spotless. Ignition is good - I'm confused?? Any ideas?

I fought a similar problem with my MF20. It would begin sputtering and only run if I pulled the choke all the way out, and then just barely. It turned out to be mega trash in the gas tank. Cleaning the sediment bowl and screen and blowing out the fuel line did no good. One day, in frustration, I took the fuel tank off, unscrewed the entire sediment bowl assembly from the tank and when the assembly was removed there was a tremendous amount of sediment blocking the inlet pipe. After cleaning the tank, I rigged a sump with 3/8" pipe, with an el going to the sediment bowl. Now, I merely drain the sump every now and then and have had no more problems.

Have you checked the coil? What you are describing has happened to me before.. once the tractor heats up a bit it sputters and quits.. if you know that it's getting fuel, then that's for sure where i'd start looking. --Jeff
