Can pistons and connecting rods be removed without splitting the tractor?
I also have a strange problem in that, when just started, it seems to miss on one cylinder, then corrects itself, but not entirely. It also increases revs ever so slightly by itself, and returns to normal (hunting). Is this a governor problem, fuel pump/injectors or inlet manifold gasket? Any ideas would be appreciated.

our 35 had engine speed changes. We had to take the pump to the rebuilders. You will be ahead in long run if you splint the tractor. To install sleeves, turn engine block on its side and aim a ready heater though the bores. Get it almost too hot to touch. Also freeze the sleeves.

Mel, whats wrong with running a welding rod down the sleeves and they come out with your hands as easy as pie. i also freeze the new sleeves before fitting. cheers.

Hi Sibby,

We will soon have an A3.152 to rebuild for my dads MF 35. ( replacing the Standard 23c) May I ask, why do you freeze the sleeves? How long? Do you put them in the block while frozen? Is this so they contract and go in easier? In a regular deep freeze at home? Any other tips would be nice. We will be buying a MF shop manual.

Thanks

Will

Will, put them in deep freeze overnight, make sure they are cleaned and free of protective wax by cleaning with thinners first, next day fit one at a time, may want to smear oil on outsides to slip into place easier. P.S. watch they dont pop up a lil bit as they warm up to room temp, use a bit of wood and tap down with hammer until they settle in. cheers!!

Hi Sibby,

Huo much oil? Just a thin coat? This oil will burn off once the engine is fired? Alsoi, what grade of oil do we use for first start after rebuild? We run 15w40, but5 should it be thinner for the first start?

Thanks,

Will

Will, Oil you use first up , not sure, depends on your temperatures over there. Just coat outside of sleeves with engine oil to make assembly easier is all its for. cheers!!

Dave, I think that you are better off jacking or supporting under the transmission and wheeling away the front end to drop oilpan. Dont forget to chock front axle both sides with wedges to stop it from toppling before you wheel it away. cheers!!!
