I am currently looking at a MF35 with the perkins. Will it handle a 6' tiller? It will be replacing an 8n and the one big item I am looking to do is till instead of plow.

Thanks
Ron

Don't do it. Get a MF 65 or better. There are some good ones on e-bay now. The MF 35 isn't much "bigger" than the one you are replacing.

Ron, I heard one time that you need about ten horsepower per foot on a tiller which would put a six foot tiller at 60 horse tractor.

..probably not as well as you'd like. If you're working previously plowed ground then it should be OK. If it's sod, you're in for a "beating". Even in Low 1st our 6 foot tiller is all the 245D wants. I would try it out(rent, borrow) first to see if 'you' like it or not.

Shouldn't be a problem, it's a gutsy little tractor.

It depends on how heavy your soil and your tiller. We use a 60" E series Howard tiller on heavy soil and it works good. If you go to a light or home owner model you could get by with a 70" tiller. A heavy tiller would need more power. But never put the 8N 25Hp Mf35 33hp on the same level.
