A friend of mine's father passed away and they want to by his tractor off of his estate. The problem is that the executor of the estate placed a value of $4000.00(usd) on it. Its in good working ordre all the sheet metal is there and it has a loader on it (massey ferguson model 90 ser # 143201230) tires have less than 50% on back and it is a wide front. It has a 3pt and pto. Its ser # is SGM 520544, what i am looking for is a value and year and any information avaliable.

Thanks for you help.

I was at an auction last week and a MF50 alone sold for $4800. no loader.

This was after the MF165 went for $4200 and I guess the buyers got scared they'd go home empty handed unless they bought the MF50. I thought that was a bit high but $4000 is in the ball park.

But as with all things local demand and supply will vary the prices.

Does your friend expect to get a settlement from his Dad's estate? If so, then the $4K would be sutracted from whatever his share would be. Since it is all a 'gift', the price is somewhat immaterial. My opinion is that, while that price seems a little high, it was his Dad's tractor and would be worth a LOT to him to keep a piece of it. If it sold at auction, it 'may' bring a lot more or maybe a little less.

I bought one out of an estate deal 3 years ago.
It has 830 original hours with a freeman
loader.It came off a 30 acre farm.I paid
$3500. I see common ones at auctions bring in
the $2500 range.A good 35 will out sell one.

That's a late 1958 model (maybe sold as a '59) Is it gas or deisel? The loader could add $300 to $1000 to the value, depending on it's condition. I have a restored 1957 model 50. I keep a close watch on their value in my area. One in above average condition, with all the parts intact, bring over $4000, plus the loader. I have seen them sell for less, however, the people selling it, have the duty to all heirs involved, to get top dollar. I'd offer, based on what you describe, $4250, and see what they say. (That's under the assumtion you believe the tractopr is worth that much, and you can't find one better, for less) The Massey Ferguson 50 was (and is) one of the best tractors of it's size, ever built. Very reliable, solid, and handy tractor. John

E-mail me a couple shots of the tractor. I'll give you a "best-guess" appraisal. Those tractors sell real well around here. Kentucky is full of small acreage cattle and tobacco farms still. In the late 50's, those farms were buying Ferguson 30's 35's and 40's. Then the Massey Ferguson 35 and 50 came along. They sold like hot cakes. There's still a bunch of 'em around here. Do to their popularity back then, many "next generation" farmers want them because they grew up on one. The one I have, my father bought new in 1957. It's in a million pieces now. Just starting the sand-blast/prime/paint thing. With the right advertising, that tractor you're talking about COULD sell for as much as $4500. A picture or two might clear up the value. I can be reached at [email protected] John
