Ok guy's, I've heard nothing but praise about mf65's. What I want to hear is something bad ! Somebody out there must think they're junk, or over rated. If so let's hear it. Personally I own one myself. I'm starting to think that I got lucky when by chance I found her when I was looking for a 9n ford. As soon as I saw it, I thought to myself, thats what I want. Thanks again for all the help,
Bob

OK. Here are the negatives. . . When I bought my MF-65 with G-176 gas engine, it sputtered and spit like crazy. Turned out the clutch went bad and exerted forward pressure on the crankshaft which bored right into the engine block. Had to have the whole thing welded and rebuilt. Also, the hydraulics on the 3pt hitch leak down when you turn off the engine. Also, if you don't use the exact (and expensive) hydraulic fluid, it can trash your axle seals and leak into your brakes, trashing those as well. Lastly, the PTO is live, but not independent, so you can run the pto when you are standing still, but you can't engage the pto when you are moving. Other than those minor things, there is no better tractor. I wouldn't trade mine for a herd of Deere.

Doug, how long have you owned it. How many hours on the thing, why do you want to engage the p.t.o. when youre travelling, what oil was in it to ruin the seals? hyds leaking down could be simple or expensive to repair, cant ever recall a clutch doing that sort of damage to the rear of an engine? Man, think of the age of the poor thing.See ya Mr. Grumpy!

Can't tell much about it before I bought it, other than the guy I got it from does not have a reputation for taking care of his equipment. When I found out the problem, I asked BigDean about it. He had seen several MF-65 engines ruined in this way. Thankfully, mine runs great after about $7000 in parts and a year of my life.

The only 'bad' thing I could think of is the poor power steering. I have read a lot about PS complaints. Still wish that I had it though....

I have a MF 65 Diesel that I mow my four acres with. no problems and no regrets. I bought a John Deere M with belly mower to cut with recently but the alternator went out and had to crank up the MF 65, but it was enjoyable. I've had people interesting in buying the tractor but I would not sell it. I'm also thinkin of getting a finishing mower to use instead of the bushhog though.

NO bad comments, bought a 1960 LP model. I'm very pleased with it. Bought at a good price, but messed up transmission, so I'll have to use it up couldn't ever get what I got in now.

The only "bad" comment I've heard is that the Hydrolic pump is a little undersized to run a front loader. It will run it but is considered slow. The MF165 corrected that.

I still won't run our 165's loader off the pump thats in there, I just routed it up to the front, then back to the control valve. Only complaints about our 165 is I wish it had about 10 more HP, and we used to burn through clutches really fast. The one in now lasted for about 5 years or so without replacement, but we took the loader off then too. Its starting to go a little bit, but still works.

Bob, they were one of the most popular and successful tractor ever imported down under. i have only ever heard one bad comment from anyone, that there are not any new ones being made anymore. farmers over here would still buy them if they were still available. cheerio cobber!!!

A Bad Story; A couple years ago I almost got a hold of a MF65 with a front end loader. I missed it by two days. Two months later the same tractor was in a local ad magazine for twice its earlier price. That had a 4 cyl Perkins diesel. It needed little or no work or rebuilding.
Now that is a BAD STORY involving a MF65.
Yes, if I could find a deal like that again I would add it to the property.
