Hello, I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether a 6..354 perkins out of an old sweet corn harvester would take the same clutch and bell housing as a 4.236 industrial. i am hunting a reasonably priced 236 but have come across a 354 that may be available reasonable. The engine is to go into a brush chipper. I have a 12" clutch and pressure plate and bell housing off a 236. Any hope of this working? Thanks YC

As far as the rear of the engine, the bell housing and flywheel should work. The front will obviously stick out farther. Are you sure the clutch will handle the added torque and horsepower. What kind of chipper is it?

Thanks for the info. The engine is going into a Vermeer 1250 chipper. It was rated for 84-110 hp all done with a 236 perkins. The only difference was one was turbo, the other not. I think the 354 is around 100-120 hp. The clutch off the old 236 is a 12 inch. If my flywheel and bell housing would bolt up to the bigger engine then I could use the hand (rockford type) clutch unit that I also already have. That would be fine. Thanks for any more info . YC
