The only way I can get my engine PTO in gear is to shut engine off and engage pto. Than to start tractor the starter is turning the engine and my bush haug. Shouldn't the clutch disengage the pto? I asume I have a clutch problem but I'm hopeing for better news or advice. Thanks in advance.

You actually have two clutches in a 65 one for your tranny and one for your PTO that is how MF acheives live power it is also in my opinion the best way Allis uses a hand clutch power director which takes getting used too anyway pull your inspection plate off the bottom and get ready to catch pieces if you don't see any you are in luck maybe just have it adjusted but I would figure on splitting the tractor and putting a new clutch set in and while you are in there do the seal in the tranny, the needlebearing in the crank and throw out bearing save yourself the headache of doing it again in a few years. There is a very specific way of dealing with a dual clutch I learned the hardway if you have questions email me it is very easy if you have the tools and setup to do it but if you do it wrong you will break your pressure plate (guilty me raising my hand)don't learn things my way it is expensive.

Tom, first of all how long since you used pto, could be a stuck pto plate in your clutch, otherwise it could be out of adjustment or a bent or broken fulcrum pin on pressure plate finger(s). cheers!!

Sibby, you may be on to something. sorry with the slow responds, I've been busy with field work. I bought this tractor from my wifes grandpa and I know there hasn't been anything on the PTO since at least the 1970's! Give me your ideas. By the way I'm a new learning as I go tractor mecanic. You've given me hope, splitting the tractor is over my head.

Tom, go to Big Deans M/F site, it takes a bit of time to explain, but if you have problems try to repost a new question. regards, sibby.
