I have recently bought a 33 standard, I like the tractor and runs out great. I have seen lately the term long frame and short frame when selling these tractors, the front end looks long enough but i dont know if there really is a difference. does anyone know anything about this
thanks

This can be a joke, after fifty years. A 30,33,
with a broken U-frame can interchange with just
bolts, to a 44RC U-frame(plenty of them around),
for some sweat labor. The clutch drive shaft,
fuel tank, 19 verses 23 gallon, give you length
variables, as do hoods sizes. For example, a 44
standard(30" wheels) has a shorter frame than a
44RC(38" wheels), yet a 44 standard U-frame is a length match, to the shorter MH 30 RC. Anyone
with a few of these tractors parked, can build a
'rare' one. Why a buyer would special order a longer standard, fifty years ago seems absurd. The Row Crop/Hi-Arch MH's were the classic ones.
Most restored tractors carry parts from about
nine others, before sealing with a new paint job.
Another reason for a current long frame standard
might be a failed rear gear set in a RC, running without gear oil. Less labor, to split the MH,
than deal with shimming worn shafts, upon getting
it buttoned up again. If Great Grandpa has his receipts on 'long frame' it's real, but why he
'needed' it, is the first question.

I think it is orignal, the dates from the front frame match the data plate and trans housing, It was bought new by owens county Illinois in 55 and was used to pull a road grader. Does that help you? And I dont care if its "rare" or not I just am curious... P.S. it has a small gas tank and rather long hood and the 33 on the hood is simular to a silkscreen not a decal, I can send a picture If you like
thanks

You have cleared up several possibilities. If a
County wanted a tractor for a specific purpose,
in 1955, and a MH Dealer bid on the request, they
get the tractor, as wanted. This one did not come
from the consignment auction held on alternate Saturdays. Why not add the photo to the Y.T.
photo section, in the left column? More MH people
will see it.

OK. I up loaded a picture of the tractor for every one to see in the photo section. Take a look and get back to me.

Thanks for the photo, I hope you get a Hi-Arch Special, when you find one. The Diesel, S/N
55113 & up, will have upgrades making it even
stronger, as one of the absolute best tractors ever built. The Special is an exciting brute to
operate, beyond words. Your 33 probably has the
original decals, thus appearing unusual. Good
luck restoring your MH's.
