255 auxillary hydraulics problem

My 255 has dual auxillary hookups. The problem is that the levers require a lot of pressure to pull back to operate them and if trying to raise my front end loader with a load it requires two hands to pull the lever back to be able to open the spool and get it to go up. Any ideas what the problem might be.

Greg,
Had the same problem on mine, let it warm up first. Compare use in cold weather to warm.
In cold weather it will be stiff for a while, cold fluid, as it warms it will much more easy.

Greg,
I have a 255 MF, this year I used a hay un roller to feed the cows. Had the same problem during the cold. However, when the tractor is used a bit before work, works very smooth. Answer fluid is cold. Try warming it up first or compair use during warm weather. bought the rig new in 83 and have not had any problems during this time.

Greg

The cartridges on the end of the spool valve are leaking by. There purpose is to cancel valve when the pressure reaches a preset level. There are 2 possible conditions. Either the cartridges are letting the oil by at too low of a setting, or the sleeves are worn allowing the oil to build up on the end of the spool thereby tring to force the spool back. In either case the more pressure you put on the handle the more hydraulic force you create to the loader and the greater the force you encounter at the handle. Remove the snap ring and cap at the rear of spools on your valve, in the end of the spool there is an allen screw, turn it in (clockwise). That should raise the pressure that the valve tries to cancel at (letting less oil between the two spring sleeve).

If the parts are worn there is not a lot you can do but replace the cartridges and sleeves. The parts are ridiculously expensive. I may have another solution but try that first.

Tom, I tried your suggestion and turned the allen screws in. I still have the same condition as before. I do appreciate your reply and idea antway though. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for your suggestion, I'll try that and see what happens.
