I know because this is a massey board you guys will favor the massey. But what are the real differences in these tractor. I currently have an 8N. there is an mf 50 near me for sale. Looking at it. It apears to be a bigger tractor. But thats about all I could tell from looking. It is also newer. Please any information would be great.

Well, having both of the tractors (and 8N and a MF TO-35 - a cousin of the MF 50), I like having both... The 8N is nice as a "do-all" tractor. I scrape manure with it (being light is nice for stacking the manure by driving over the manure pile). The Massey is nice because of the live power and it being a little more HP... I use it for cutting, raking and baling hay - and it does fine on the front of my manure spreader (where it spends most of it's time...)

You are right about favoring the Massey but there is some reasoning behind it. It can do more. It has a better power to weight ratio and is more stable under load. It is a more powerful tractor and so you force less with it than with a smaller tractor. As a result of its size and weight you can put more on the back (heavierlogs, whatever)and you won`t spin, I`ve used both tractors quite a bit and while I might like the little Ford for raking hay or something I would take the 50 anyday for almost any other job.
