Hi, I'm currently loooking at a MF 135 to purchase.
It's a 3cyl diesel, P/S, live power, and looks to be in really good condition. But, I noticed that the round 135 emblem was mounted toward the front of the hood, instead of the normal position at the rear of the hood.

A friend told me that it is a "Made in the UK" 135. I really like the tractor, but now I'm a little bit leary.

Is anyone here familiar with this ? Are the 135's that were made in the UK any different from their USA counterparts ?

Are any of the parts different or difficult to aquire ?

Any info greatly appreciated !

Thanks, Jeff

Thanks for all the info everyone !

Sounds like there's not a whole lot of difference in the USA and UK 135's

My main concern was parts availability and inter-changability etc., which doesn't seem to be a big issue.

I'm also looking at a couple J.Deeres...so now I guess
it's back to Decisions, Decisions, Decisions !

Thanks again,

Jeff

I have one of each. The starter and alt on the English unit have been replaced with Delcos - interchangeable, and cheaper.

The clutch on the UK model is 12", while the US has 11".

Most all parts are readily available from (CHEAPER!) aftermarket sources. A&I has excellent stocks in NA, and our host here is an A&I dealer, I think.

They are excellent tractors - not quite as simple as the absolutely top-notch 35's to repair, but every bit as reliable. Perhaps a bit more stylish, if that's your kick, but style doesn't pull plows!

Just look at how many are still in service after 30 to 40 years!

Go for it. Once you get any bugs out, it will do you for another 30 years!

We have a '72 UK 135. Have no problem getting parts up here in B.C. We like the heavy square front axel. Good power steering. We had the electrics serviced locally. They had Lucas parts in stock. We have a allied front end loader which works well ecept for being slow. (4 gpm ) pump. We have a neighbour with US 135. and there is not any difference in performance. Ray-s

The ( English built of course ) 135 we had was bought new in 1965 and sold in 1996.I think it had done about 8000 hours. All it ever had replaced in all that time, apart from oil and filters was 1 radiator hose, 1 rocker cover gasket and 1 control valve in the 3 point lift mechanism. A fabulous little tractor.

The badge on my 135 is in front aswell

I believe they are exactly the same.

I think that diesels were mostly made in the UK, whereas more gas 1s in USA. Might be wrong though

Parts fro mine are v. easy to acquire.

All the 135's I have seen here I believe were Made in the UK, Most are equipped with the Perkins AD3 - 152 Engine. Easy to get parts for either Through a Massey Dealer or Bepco- which is based in the UK.
I don't know about the USA 135's but there is NOTHING wrong with the English ones - in the area I live there are heaps still in every day use. Second hand ones still fetch the same as what they were when they were new. On the English ones there is a Foot Throttle - not sure about the American ones - but as a guy told me in the USA when I was there - you know when they are from England, coz they have got the Gas Pedal.Anyway hope that helps. Oh & all the 135's I have seen here have the round 135 Badge up the front of the bonnet.

The tinwork on the UK 135 (if required) is different and could be slightly more difficult to source in the USA. Electrical system should be Lucas which is somewhat more expensive than Delco to remanufacture. The Powersteering system is a better design. If the tractor checks out OK and the price is fair you should consider it!
