I have an running yet unrestored Challenger, probably a 1936, and am trying to figure out its original color. Earlier posts say that the Challengers were originally green, but then they changed to red at some point. Mine has the serial number of 131108, which should be a 1936. Even though the tractor is thoroughly covered with rust, there are traces of red paint under the bottom boiler plate. The only green I can find is traces on the seat support unit. Would anybody know if this tractor, perhaps by the serial number, was originally green and later painted red, or was it red from the factory?

DEAR DAVE BRIAN IS RITE IN 1936-1937 3,366 WERE MADE . SERIAL #S RANGED FROM 130,001-133,366.THE CASTING DATE IS STAMPED ON TOP OF THE TRANNY HOUSING DIRECTLY UNDER THE GAS TANK .THIS DATE WILL APPROXIMATE THE DATE OF MANFACTURE WITHIN A FEW WEEKS.THE CHALLENGER WAS MASSEYS FIRST ROW-CROP TRICYCLE TRACTOR.IT WAS BASED ON THE SAME ENGINE & TRANNY AS THE WALLIS 12-20 & PACEMAKER TRACTOR . ANADJUSTABLE W/F/E WAS OFFERED AS AN OPTION BUT IT IS VERY RARE TO FIND ONE WITH THAT OPTION TODAY.KNOW IM NOT THAT SMART . IM WRITING FROM MY BOOK.ANY QUESTIONS IF I CAN HELP JUST E-MAIL ME

With that serial number that is definately an unstyled challenger and it would have been green from the factory.
