The MF100 loader on my MF50 tractor supposedly requires Type A trans. fluid. The MF50 tractor PS pump also requires the same.

What are the recommended substitutes that are readily available?

Thanks,

Steve

We had a service bulletin from Massey Ferguson on that when type A was getting hard to find they told us to use the same oil that was used in the 100 series tractor transmission M1129A to day it is called Permatran 3. In the loader you can use a straight hydraulic oil & could probably get by using it in the steering if it does not foam to much.

Type "A" fluid is still manufactured and sold. An internet search will discover the manufacturers. Rural King farm stores sell type "A" transmission fluid and also on thier website.

Thanks - I'll look for both of those types. For what it's worth, mentioning 'Type A' gets you a blank stare even at a NAPA store, and they typically can get or have various tractor fluids.
