The owners manual for my Massey says to use only Massey brand antifreeze in the cooling system. I have not found another brand at local auto parts stores that says it meets or exceeds the Perkins engine requirement for antifreeze. Can anyone tell me what type of antifreeze I can use in a Perkins engine and save me a 40 mile drive to the dealer. Thanks.

your tractor has dry sleeve's so it it doesnt't affect them. what it does affect is your radiator, any valve's in the cooling system or any heater cores. use any current antifreeze with (LOW SILICATE) then add the recommended DCA 4 additive. this is usually recommended at 1 pt per 4 gal of water.

Any Glycol based antifreeze. These will have corrosion inhibitors added, not as critical for an old tractor as for modern vehicles with Aluminium heads / radiators. Don't use a methanol based antifreeze, the methanol evaporates in time and you have no protection at all.

Tom, you can use Prestone at the 50/50 mix with distilled water. The water costs about one dollar per gallon. Also, add the anti-cavitation additive for your diesel engine since it has wet sleeves. The additive costs about 5 dollars or so and may save you a complete rebuild down the road. Without it you are risking getting holes through the sleeves.
