I was wonder if anyone can tell me the differance
between the Serial Numbers for the MF35 as in to SN307657 with Perkins Dsl A3-152 and SN307657 Up with same engine? Needing to know wich one has Tachometer cable hooking into the back of Cam Gear. Trying to get a Tachometer that will work with a Fordson Dexta. Thanks to any Help

I don't understand what you are asking, since the serial numbers that you posted are the same. Can you clarify your question? C. T.

davo,i am sure they are all the same on the 3.152 engines, they indicate an increase in revs by the tacho needle moving anti clockwise as revs increase, but the 4 cyl moves clockwise, are you sure the difference isnt 3or 4 cyl engine,or something else? the 3 cyl drives off rear of camshaft.

The Vapormatic catalog shows a cut-off at that serial number for tach and tach cables for the Perkins.

We have 35's earlier and later than that, and the cables seem to be the same - both take off from the rear of the camshaft, and have the same lengths and ferrules.

There is a difference in tractors - the earlier ones have the 1500-540 transmission, and our 379xxx has a 1700-540 transmission - the engine runs at 1700 rather than 1500 or so to give 540 PTO rpms.

The PTO speed indicator mark is at 1500 or 1700 on the respective tachs.

The transmissions are distinguished by transmission cutoff numbers rather than tractor serial numbers in the MF parts book, so I can't correlate with the tractor number.

Perhaps this helps.

jack, i think you could be right, may be different engine revs for 540 p.t.o. speed with different trans p.t.o. ratios ,depending on serial number for which one. would there be a chance its for 35 or 35x maybe? cheers!

I think Sibby is right. My understanding is that the 35X has 450 PTO RPM at 1700 engine RPM, as opposed to the 35 which is at 1500 engine RPM.
