I am considering purchase of a 3 pt hydraulic woodsplitter, but have questions regarding compatibility with my tractors' hydraulic systems. The splitter is mounted to a tractor and is coupled, by hoses, to the tractor's remote hydraulic system. The splitter has its own control valve. My 65 has a single remote (2 ports, one three-position, detent-type valve, supplied by the stand pipe from the scotch yoke piston pump). Can I operate the woodsplitter on this type of system? If so, do I need to put the valve in the center position and position the 3 pt controls in the "constant pumping" position? My MF 255 has an internal auxiliary hydraulic pump and dual remotes with 4 ports, two side-mounted, three position (no detent, always return to center position) factory control valves. Will either, or both, of these tractors operate this woodsplitter? I think I know the answer, but would like to ask guys who've "been there". Thanks in advance for the assistance.

I used a log splitter on my Massy 65 and it is painfully slow. I suppose it depends on the size of the ram on the splitter. I would go with a pto pump with an axilarly tank. (16 - 22 gpm)
