I just became the proud owner of a Massey Ferguson 65.
Where would be the best place to get the parts manual and repair manual (I have the owner manual)?
What is the NAPA or other number for the oil filter (gas engine)?
Is it true I shouldn't use detergent oil in the engine? (original - never rebuilt)
Where would be the nearest dealer to Green Bay. WI? (G.B. is nearest large city to me).
What size brush hog should I get and is there one that works best with the 65?
Specifically what fluid should I put in the transmission?
Thanks for your help!!!

Congrats!! I recently bought a 65 and just went through the same thing, You will get good advise on this web. NAPA filter is 1010, I live near Rice Lake and couldn't find 90 wt. mineral oil any where including Farm and Fleet. Massey dealer isn't handy for me so I called them and they told me to go to CASE IH and get Multi 134 Transmision OIL, 8 Gallons, cheaper in 5 gal. pales. A friend of mine works at NAPA and borrowed me there SHOP MANUAL for the 65 and I copied the whole thing , only 64 pages. Owners manual I ordered on this web site about 3 weeks ago for $30 and it still hasn't come.

In my opinion you wasted 68 pages of copying. Go to MF Dealer and get a real Repair Mnaual and Parts Manual.

As for the oil, I own a mf65 gas and personally I run a good deisel engine oil. If you have the time pull the valve cover and see how grundged up things are. If it's fairly clean I would run detergent oil. If on the other hand it's nasty I would probly run nondetergent. What did the previous owner run ? if you don't know maybe you can find out. Good luck, you have what many people consider one of the best tractors ever made.

Congradualtions the MF65 is a great tractor.
First question is it a deasel or a gas Cont. G176 engine?

My info is for the Gas engine.
Best place for parts and service manuals is at your Full line MF dealer. They have them for ~$18 Parts and $39 service. with the binder. There are non full line dealers that have higher delevery charges from Massey and charge a bit more. However, direct from the dealer is far cheaper than on line.

There are several MF dealers in your area. Goto the link below and type in your Zip to get the nearest dealers.

The NAPA filter is a 1010, or an 1011. Just picked up one last week for $6.99. Napa has the cross referance book to get the right one. (again this is for the gas engine)

The debate on the use of detergent oil verses non-detergent is varried. No opinion here.

The MF65 is a four bottom plow 46HP tractor it will handle most any size bushhog you put on it. It will handle a 5 or 6 foot with out any problems.

The transmission takes straight 90 wt. mineral oil. That is the GL-1 spec mineral oil. This is NOT SAE90 wt. gear oil. The oil is available at many places. others say they had good results with the wallmart brand GL-1 @ $23/5 gallons.

The oil type and quantities should be covered in your owners manual.

Jeff
