What is the problem with the steering box, wide
or Narrow front end? Adjust with a few correct parts, usually brings these back to functioning
well. Did you open it up, for visual inspection?

Wide front, haven't opened it up yet but visual outside of case shows steering shaft, bushing or what ever is so bad that worm of steering gears no longer even connect. Unable to steer. Date of tractor is 12-19-51. Side ID plate has been removed. Just purchase tractor. Thanks.

1,3,4,2. The box housing for the steering is the same on 30,33,44,Special,333,444. Possibly some
others, too. If the axle tube, bushings, are
somehow as beaten, as your steering assembly, it
will be a costly rebuild. Bolting up an intact
NFE, from a parked 44, with decent steering, might be a more realistic solution.

Thanks, do you also know the part number for the steering box. I've been contacted that one may be available but need parts number.

Approach this with caution, for various reasons. There are about three or more sets of MHF part
numbers. The complete Saginaw housing assembly
(w/worm) is MH# 766697M91. If someone will ship
on appoval, or return, you still need to address
the 7 tooth vertical sector gear, in the support
housing of the front axle. If your tie rods
wobble up & down with the gear, 1/2", the lone
model using this sector gear is yours.Wear in the
third & forth teeth, means machine shop advice.
Prepaying on shipped used steering parts is not
wise. Doctored junque may be an easy sale to drop off at UPS.I have received boat anchors, too.

Seems there was a complete detailed overhaul of
these WFE's about last September, in the archives. If you searched those records, some
valuable information will be yours. The lower shaft that attaches to the steering shaft is very
hard to find. The worm is on the end of it, in the box. Box bushings, bearings can be purchased at a bearing supply house. The bachlash sleeve, which supports the worm is often in better condition, on a lighter tractor, like a 30. Your
worm gear is a reverse cut from a NFE MH, so you
need to preserve it. If scored, a machine shop
may be able to dress it, some. Diagrams from the
shop or parts manuals would help. Good luck.
