165 position control...fixed!

Last fall after moving 40 or so round bales using the 3-pt bale spear the position control on the 165 quit working. I didn't have the FEL installed yet, so I had to load each bale on the rear of the trailer & push everything towards front. The trailer only holds 4 bales, but I guess this is not a good idea.

Anyway, the position control just quit(inner quadrant lever had no effect), so I assumed the fix involved pulling the lift cover, so I put it off 'til this past week. I could get by using the draft control, although when using the bush hog it was either kicking up a dust storm or cutting knee high half the time.

Speaking of cutting(to the chase), I pulled the cover & didn't find any obvious problems. The fingers were where they were supposed to be, the springs all in the right place, adjusting screws & locknuts were snug, kind of disappointing!
All I could think to do is follow the service manual & reset the adjusting screw @ the valve plunger, the position control screw @ top end of actuating rod, the draft stop screw, & after re-setting the cover, adjusted the roller contact wheel.

I fired her up before replacing the side cover, just like the manual says, to set the roller contact wheel, reached up to slide the inner quadrant lever & BLESS MY SOUL, IT WORKED!!!

I am so happy & proud of my self, but have no idea what I really did to fix it. Can't help wondering if all I really had to do is adjust the roller contact screw. My advice to anyone else w/ this problem is try that 1st!!

Jeff
