I bought a 1962-64 MF 35 that has no hydraulic movement. The guy I bought it from said he was blading his driveway and heard a pop inside the tractor and the lift went all the way up then came down and he then had no hydraulics at all.How do I go about determining what is the problem ? Does the tractor need to be split or is there possibly a shear pin that broke and I can get to it by removing the top cover ? Thanks

There is a video on the rebuilt of this pump. It is extremly good and walks you throught the process. It is well worth the small expense.

Help! Can you tell me where to get that video? My MF-35 hydraulic problem is similar to Rich"s:

I think I overloaded the 3-pt hitch with too much weight too far behind the tractor; now arms lift without weight, and will lift a couple hundred pounds, but just pulse with more weight.

I haven"t any idea what to do or how; the shop and repair manuals" photos are illegible so the written descriptions don"t help enough.

Thanks.

See if you still have PTO drive, if you do the pump is being driven. The fact that the linkage went up then down again suggests a control valve / linkage problem. Take off the right hand side cover and investigate. You can get the whole pump out through the top if necessary.

The PTO still works,I have never worked on any hydraulic problems before. If the pump is still working there is a chance that I can fix it without taking the pump out ? Feels like there is nothing hooked up to the lever,it does nothing, and the arms just hang there loose. Thanks I will take off the cover and check it out.

rich, could have broken rocker shaft crank (cast iron) located inside lift cover, under seat,or twisted linkagequadrant located beside it.you will have to remove lift cover to investigate.i have seen this happen a few times before when worked with a blade.are you sure the hyd pump control valve isnt stuck?

How do I check the hydraulic pump control valve? Also the cover under the seat has several cracks completely accross it, can this piece be found used? could be tough to weld it. Thanks for your help

rich, never seen one welded yet.is it split across through where the quadrant goes into lift cover(hyd levers on r/h side?)are there any tractor wreckers near you,? you are better off replacing the complete lift cover assembly. remove your old one and go from there.
