I hear Massey Harris made a real good pull type plow.
What was different about them that made them so good?

They had all kinds of adjustment, they pulled easy and did a wonderful job. The strong part about them around here is that they were the best sod plough to be had and they and Cockshutt were the only ploughs to be seen at matches where the guys really took their ploughing seriously. Not quite as heavy as an International #8, but plenty strong. Around here, the only trail ploughs to be seen were Massey, Cockshutt and International. Those three had 95% of the plough market. None of them had enough clearance for a lot of trash, but back then you weren't much of a farmer if you had a lot of residue.

I might add that Massey also really promoted good ploughing. They actually made match plows by adding special equipment as options. The Massey dealer in Hagersville sent a county team to the International Match for years during the thirties and forties and brought back the Championship several times.(Win ploughing matches=excellent plow sales)

We had a MH 14" 3 bottom plow we pulled with a Super M mostly in 2nd gear. Did a fine job of plowing. It was purchased new in 1950. We were the 3rd owner.
