I am mentoring a young teenager. He can't seem to keep from buying tractors. Today he brought home a very nice Massey Harris Pony. Now the problem, I know very little about Massey tractors. We are trying to figure out the year. Took this serial no. from the tag on the right front frame. Serial No. PGA 8645A. Is this a 1949 or 1950 model? I am guessing the A stands for High Altitude. I have looked at my serial no. books and several web sites and am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

My Massey data book lists it as a late 1949 the serial # ends at pga10816a for 1949.The A is just part of the serial#. Hope this helps you John

PGA in the Serial number means "Adjustable Front axle" PGS means stands (nonadjustable or Standard) front axle

Thanks for the help. 5-3-0 is stamped into the top of the transmission case. He just likes to know as much as possible about his tractors.
