could someone tell me what this serial#jnm270996 exactly means. i tried to get a set of brake shoes for it and it came up as a english model. the brake shoes are very expensive $357.00 versus $85.00 for any other mf35 the only difference i can see is all the small holes where the keepers go threw are in a different place.so why are they so expensive

I think you have a 1962 UK Built MF35. See www.fofh.co.uk for reference. Relining is the cheapest option, in UK the last set of linings I had was about 25 (4 linings + rivets)

my records show you have a M.F.50. The J stands
for multi-purpose-The N stands for diesel and the
M stands for double cluth (two stage pedal with
live power) Does it have a 3 cyl Perkins? If US
production it should have Delco starter-gen etc.
If English build it would have a 4 cyl Standard
Motors diesel.I will admit the s/n is a little confusing as the270996 does not line up with an MF
50. If you don't get a better answer I'll try
harder.I show p/n 830480m92 as the brake kit.

Rick
You definately have a MF 35, 1962 year Industrial ( the J at front of serial No stands for industrial) The industrial tractors came with different options from the normal 35, hydraulic brakes and hand brakes amongst others. Possibly this is the reason for the extra cost of parts.
