I have a massey 44 with live power , serial # 45316 . Were many 44's produced with live power. I can't recall seeing any other such tractors.

I think it was introduced on the 44"s in the last year and was an option on 44Special and 444's. I have a late 44 serial #45102 with the two clutchs and know of a couple other's like mine, but they are all late 44's. I think they sold 44's and 44 Specials at the same time, they are both listed in the buyers guide for 1953.

If you refer to the over-ride hand clutch, as 'live power', it was availble on 44D's in 1950,
always packaged with double disc brakes. This
'live clutch' was most popular on the 44 Special.
By 1955, MH was suppose to have independent live
PTO, like Oliver, but with Harry Ferguson's fits
over doing anything with non-Ferguson equipment, there was no R & D budget to produce the finished true 444. MH fell behind other colors,
in sales without this upgrade feature. The MHF chaos, following merger, is an accurate picture
of a company losing direction, beyond short term
profits.

My neibour just finished restoring a 1953 #44 that has live PTO and disk brakes. It was an option that year. ----- Harold
