I have an MF150 w/Perkins diesel that has been sitting for about 18 months. We had to replace the ignition switch to start it but it started right up. We let the engine run for @ 3 minutes to warm the oil. When we drained the oil it was battleship grey in color. Would that indicate diesel fuel in the oil? This is our first tractor so I'm new at working on these. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks guys. Was out of town for the past few days so I couldn't answer. The tractor was outside and does have a verticle exhaust so I'm guessing that's where the water came from. Changed the oil, charged the battery and started right up, however, now it won't start again. We used it for about an hour to drag a 100 foot driveway with a box blade and everything ran fine. Once we turned it off and tried to restart it we got nothing. Like there's no juice in the battery. It's a new battery so I'm not sure what else it could be.

Did you check the oil prior to starting? What did it look like?

Might be nothing more than condensation from sitting so long. Change the oil and keep a close eye on it,to see what happens with the new oil.

gray is water in oil. was it sitting out side?. if so did you cover the muffler if it has a horizontal one? if you did't thats how you got water in the oil most likely. if not a horizontal you might have a cracked head or block or bad head gasket
