I have a 135 massy perkins diesel with a duel stage clutch. I am not having any trouble at all with the transmission clutch, it is working and holding good, but the pto clutch doesnt seem to have any power any more and it is getting worse at slipping under load. I just had the clutch replaced two years ago and have not done anything really hard with the PTO so I dont think the disc is worn out, but I think something is out of adjustment or broken to cause this.

I know this is a fairly complex clutch set up by looking at my shop manuel, but does anyone have any suggestions to try before splitting the tractor???

I have tried adjusting the foot petal like the book says, but it hasnt changed anything and when I moved the foot petal adjustment the clutch stated growling when it was engauged.

Any thoughts

You adjusted the primary clutch per the owners manual, right? Then adjust the secondary clutch that operates the PTO. You'll find easy instructions on Big Dean's website in the pictures link.

Thanks Ray, I think I am going to try to adjust the secondary clutch from the instructions on Big Deans site. Hopefully that solves the problem.

I forgot to mention that there are 3 adjustment bolts equally spaced around the clutch. I don't think the pictures and instructions are clear about that.

I found the adjustment bolts and they were a little wider than the spec called for, so I dont think that is my problem. I looked up in there and there seems to be a lot of oil in the bellhousing, looks like maybe the rear main seal on the engine has gone bad and gotten the clutch oily. I think I am going to go by the agco dealer and get the rear main engine seal and the front main transmission seal and try to replace them and I guess the clutch discs too.

Anything I should know about the rear main seal or the transmission seal before I split the tractor in half this weekend???

Harry Ferguson made provisions for leaks from each of these areas. There is a small hole in the bottom of the housing with a cotter pin in it. The pin is to keep the hole open, however it gets plugged sometimes and the oil can then cause the problems you have. Sellers sometimes plug this hole to hide oil leaks. Before performing all this work splitting the tractor insure the drain hole is open and use aerosol brake cleaner to clean the clutch discs and see it it helps. Two cans of brake cleaner is quite cheap compared to splitting the tractor. As you have determined by now I believe in the KISS principle and try the easiest, cheapest route first. My clutch began sticking and hanging once so I eased the bumper up against a large tree, pushed in the clutch pedal, and when it came free I continued slipping the clutch until I began to smell the clutch getting hot. I've never had clutch problems since

Yes, my hole with the cotter pin is open and the tractor dropped a nice puddle of engine oil on the shop floor after I pulled it in. It is also making a smaller puddle of rear end oil just behind the cotter pin hole, and the entire bell houseing and clutch area is soked in oil.

My main clutch for the movement of the tractor is working fine, and holding power very good, its the PTO clutch that is slipping wildly and I can barely use the pto before the clutch starts to slip and the impliment stopps. The adjustment on the PTO clutch is off the disc and looks to be correct, I just reset it to .060 on all three bolts, so the only other thing I can think is that the clutch disc has oil on it or something is wrong with the disc or the pressure plate.

I will try some brake cleaner on the clutch and will run it around some more now that I have adjusted it better, but I am not sure that will do the trick.

Thanks for the help and I will let you know how it turns out.
