I have aquired what I believe is an MF35. I am looking to use it to plough a small area. I've recently changed the oil and filter using Oil recomended by the Massey dealer, I can't remember what. However the first time I put the filter on after using it for about an hour oil was pouring from the filter. I think the seal was incorrectly positioned. I've now rectified that but the minute you start it up even from cold and at low revs the oil pressure guage goes sraight to 100% in the red high? Why could this be? is it the guage or is it a blockage?

If the oil pressure guage is mechanical, chances are that it may be okay, and that something inside of the engine is not. If the pressure guage uses an electrical signal, attach a mechanical (one that uses a length of tubing to the guage.) one at the same point as the electrical sending unit. Then chack pressure.

Oil filters are manufactured with a bypass valve if it should become clogged, but it will not leak externally.

If there is a blockage just after the filter, and the oil pump relief valve is stuck closed, you may blow the can and cartridge right out of the filter. This may be what was about to happen when the other started to leak.

There are not too many options here. If a gallery is plugged, the clog has to be removed as it will not remove itself, and if it did, there is considerable damage it could do.

You could try starting the engine, and shutting it off, and right away try to remove the filter to see if there is residual pressure in the line- if there is, there is a real problem.

mark, these gauges get weak with age.try master gauge or fit new gauge and check reading.have found old gauge was the problem every time.
