i ended up buying a pair 23.1x34 tires with rims and they fit on massey harris 55! about 2 inches between the fenders. that was close call.. just want to know, think it would do real good in pulling? im gonna loaded up with water ballast and (6) 150 pounds mh doughnuts wheel weights.. think it would have more than enough power to keep pulling? those tires are really wide.. they look real good on mh 55! soon i ll post a picture MH55 with tires..

55MH; Wonder if the 57 hp rig has enuf internal strength to deliver the torque to the tire patches without twisting some hardware into junk?
Best of luck with that upgrade.

Mr. bone, less that 55 is puting out 160+hp that is way to much tire for that tractor. you sure aint going to spin out with all that tire, but the load on the drive train will be a darn good one that is for sure. to make a point here, most the locals run 18.'s XXX on there big deere's. some of the deere's run triples on them with the 18.'s. some of that has to do with price of 20.'s Vs 18.'s and some to do with the job that is to be done. one thing that i will say though is what a deal on them tires you did get. if they are not weather chekced you could sell them for a good penny if you could find a buyer. than get some good used or new 16.s

its all about gears ratio and engine size, you dont need a huge engine , just the ratio.. that should give enough power to keep lugging on.. in frist gear.. i think it may do ok.. just gonna take my chance and see how it goes then i can leave a forum about what happened, if it doenst do any good then i will go smaller tire sizes.. really sure appricate all those feedbacks..in that 1st gear, it barely goes 2 mph..so that gives u that idea it could kept going..i think thats the trick.. almost like a pulley , the more pulley u have the less u have to work harder..

Pulling is about "torque to the ground" a bigger tire has you in "1st and a 1/2 gear" I'd just try the weights, with out loading the tires, tuff to weld thise old axle shafts

yup , something like that.. gotta figure out whats best to do it... its not too big but it would increase a real good tractions and put all that torque into the ground.. shouldnt be a problem for that tractor..

You probably won't spin out, but something may snap in the drive train. That is way too much tire for that clutch and drive train.

that clutch and gearbox, they seemed to be more than enough to take it.. its hand clutch so that will keep pressure on that clutch, 12 inches plate, i think it has enough to take it on..they were made to pull hard and at all times, even with loader pushing all that logs and etc.. so i think it will do just fine.. hope so!

It's a five decade old MH 55D, once you look at
what is there besides a JD382, you see limits.
Doubtful you will be threating any Steigers,
except in your fantasies.

I have a 55 gas with 18.4 tires and no fluid or weights that will pull a 4 bottom plow in 3rd gear but last summer I went to a pull with it and in 1st gear it ran out of power before it spun out. Those sleds will give a guy a quick education.
