The 22 I'm restoring doesn't have the original generator. The one that's on it is too long and pushes the air cleaner back, whoever put it on just used 25 washers to make it sit in the bracket. According to my manual it should be an Autolite #GBM-4804B-5. I know I can get a replacement but was told the rebuilts won't have a pulley, and I don't know if the pulley on the one I've got is the right size (correct r.p.m.)or if it would fit a rebuilt generator. Anyone have any advice or an old generator they'd like to part with that's correct?
Thanks

There were a number of models of generator that were on tractors and industrial equipment in those days that would fit your tractor and be pretty much original. You have a 6 Volt 3rd brush generator there and most tractors from that era used pretty much the same one. It should have a single cut-out relay mounted right on the generator. That is NOT a regulator by the way, it just prevents the battery from discharging through the generator when the tractor is turned off. The regulation is done in two places, first inside the generator itself (by moving the position of the third brush) and second by the charge control feature on the 3-position light switch. There is an article(s) on those generators in the history and research section (Articles) in the left margin here that is pretty good reading. Good luck with your search.
