The nut holding the final drive axle on a Pacer is "staked" into the axle grove or what appears to be a key way according to I & T shop manual. What is the best way of getting the nut unstaked so I can get the nut off to remove the axle. My Massey dealer can get a new lock nut if we must cut the old nut off. We have already tried with 3/4 drive sockets to remove the nut but the staked nut is holding well. Thank you for your help.

I usely grinde something to slide in the keyway under the staked part of the nut and use a brasing tip on my tourch to heat the bent part of the nut red hot then bend it with the tool I ground to fit the keyway slot and turn it 1/4 turn as it is hot and soke it with pent oil or wax
so it turns off easer after it cools if you turn it all the way off while redhot the threads will suffer hope this helps
