1. If the tractor you bought is just plain a brute of a tractor it is a 55. 2. If it is a brute with a little flashy sheet metal installed it is a 555. About the most noticable flashy sheet metal is when sitting on the seat is the area between your legs enclosed in sheet metal and is the radiator cap under a little door? The nickname for my 55 is THE BULL and it lives up the name everytime it's operated.

Hope this helps

The main difference between the 55 and 555 is the hood and grille. The grille has the chrome medallion on the front top portion with a long chrome strip running down the front. If the original chrome is missing the attaching holes should still be there. The hood has a radiator access door on top and the sides of the hood are cut out more on the 55. Also the 555 came with a 12 volt system. There is no tin under the seat on either tractor. Merle is thinking of the 333-444

The difference between the 55 and 555 is basicaly cosmetic. The 555 has a hood emblem, engine painted bronze, rear wheels were painnted aluminum. The engine and trans are the same as the 55.Parts for these two models will interchange with each other.I have one of each.If I was to paint the 555 the same as the 55 color scheme and remove the hood emblem you would not be able to tell them apart.
