Do what they say---Another option could be the coil---some times they get pretty warm, a sign of troubles. Remember posting questions on this or any other web---the more you give (information / history) the more you recieve. After it dies and you crank it over----- do you see white smoke coming from the exhaust? If you are it is probably getting fuel to the goodies---thus it could be electrical---check a plug to see if it is wet---if it is it is getting fuel and no spark. Good Luck Dave NE Iowa

Definitely the carb. Take all the way apart, be sure you pull out every part you can, clean thoroughly and then blow it out with air.
It took me two days to get my 44 to run it was so plugged at the fuel line, bowl, tank, carb that it was a bear!

It runs great now, stick with it!

Malcolm, you haven't given us much background so I am responding to you by my experience..any time a tractor starts and runs and then dies it is likely not getting a steady flow of fuel. You need to clean the sediment bowl and follow the fuel to the carb, you should have a good stream of fuel out of the line before it enters the carb, the sediment bowl should fill quickly when you open the shut off valve. I use a mist bottle with fuel in it when troubleshooting, if the tractor starts to die I give it a squirt into the throat of the carb....then I know if it is a fuel problem or electrical..if the tractor picks up its fuel if it stalls anyway it may be electrical...I'm more (about 80%) inclined to think you have a fuel problem. Have you done anything to the carburetor recently? Check for fuel flow first then get back if you need to and someone will give you some more advice...a Farmalllll..er Massey guy, yeah, that's it I'm a Massey guy..... .Mike in Exeter Ontario

I had to jump start my Massy 44 a couple of years ago and it would run for a couple of minutes and quit. After a couple of hours I realized that the battery would hold enough juice to keep it running then it would go dead and the tractor would quit running. Bad Battery was my problem.
