Is there much demand for these parts? I have a 30 that I had planned to restore since it has good sheet metal and all parts, but I have been working on getting the engine unstuck for a while now (long story)and about to give up. I was thinking of parting it but have never done that, so I was wandering if it would be worthwhile. I don't have much invested in the tractor yet except time.

GARY,
Dad bought a MH 20 at an auction and the engine was stuck...i took the head off and put a 4x4 (cut to fit) on the piston and hit each cylinder 2 times whith sledge hammer and it came loose...keep a pattern....the pistons that are up hit down first (2 times each) then hit the ones down the farthest (2times each) and keep that pattern up till she comes loose. We also have a 38' challenger that we did this to..stuck for 30 years or more...it came loose after alot of HARD hittin. All so if anyone has a 33 for sale or know where one is sittin ...email me THANKS

The tractor is located in central MS. I have soaked the pistons with everything suggusted and have been doing this for about 8 months without any luck. I have also tried to get the head off the tractor for about 6 months now without any progress. I have other projects and really don't want to have to change out the engine. I have unhidden my email address if you would like to discuss. thanks

If you have exhausted the possibility of getting
your 162 loose, how about a little effort finding
another 400 series Continental? As Mike stated, these MH's are easy to work with, on repairs. You
can find a 140 or 162(same block), to drop into
your 30. Continental made a million of them, few
tricks from MH on the swap. Since you are not out
to work a 300 acre farm, the 140 will power the 30 adequately. Many power units, implements, used
these flatheads. First choice would be a MHF 35SP
combine, the 140 was '57-'64 vintage, boosted a bit. You only need to locate one loose one. Save your 30, part-outs leave you with a ton of hulk,
then you have to cart it away. A tired combine can
easily have a decent engine resting in it.

Give us the long story of the stuck engine Gary. Maybe somebody out here has a trick to help you get on your way. Sounds like a good starting piece for a nice restoration. Straight tin often means not much wear and tear elsewhere.

Gary i have a 1949 massy harris 30. The engine was stuck on it. I took the front off the engine and took the camshaft gear off. It turned over real good then. There was valves stuck. I got them free and did a valve job. It runs good now just smokes a liitle.
