My friend called and said he found a 30 at the local dealer. They want $800 for it. It says in the ad that it runs, not runs good. I don't know much about masseys, but i think a 30 would be close to a farmall h, about 20-25hp. Is this a good deal or not. He is only 12 and dosn't have much money to put into it if it does not run right. If he gets it then it will be his first antique. What do you think?

Hello, a massey 30 is a very common tractor, as is the 44, they made a billion of them, it should run good for that price, personally if he wants something worth value he might save his money and buy a triple series, they only made them 2 years 333. 444. 555, just my thoughts MH collector

It all depends on what it's like when you get a good look at it. If it just "runs" but has beat-up tinwork, poor rear rubber, rusted rims, rotten wiring, missing/not-working gauges, etc. then it's overpriced. If it's a good running and complete original tractor with decent rubber and straight tin, you're maybe close to its true market value.

Probably a wide front seeing as how you are from here in Canada. What part of Ontario are you from? One great thing about the Masseys is that they are easier to work on than most tractors since the engine/clutch/driveshaft assembly can lift right out of the cast iron front tub without splitting the tractor. I did my first restoration on a 101 Junior which is similar to your model 30 there. Also, the Continental engine in your tractor was used in lot of agricultural and industrial applications and there are a lot of old engines and new and used parts available too. Let us know how you make out.

I am from south western ontario, about 1 hour away from the windsor/detroit border.
The tractor is a narrow front.
