thanks for the replies,, will check out big dan site,, do not know much about mf tractors,, have ordered owners manual, maybe will be able to understand more about how the pto works from it,, does the aux pump need to be engaged to get the pto to full speed and power?,, thanks again

If you have IPTO, the auxillary pump runs whenever the engine runs. Does the foot clutch have any effect on the pto?

no,, the foot does not seen to have any effect on the pto at all, only the pto leaver engages and releases the pto,,seems to work better the the more the tractor has been run,, but still has to run in high throttle to keep the pto running at cutting speed,,

OK. It sounds like you have Independent PTO, not the 2 stage clutch and Live PTO. There is an auxillary hydraulic pump on top of the main pump. Both pumps run when ever the engine rus. The aux. pump provides the pressure for the PTO clutch pack and the multi-power, if so equipted. I still think the PTO clutch is probably slipping and that is likely due to low pressure.

Your comments confuse me. You say it has little power but doesn't slip. That seems contradictory. Does this tractor have "Independent PTO"? If so, the pto clutch pack is probably slipping, possibly due to a weak auxillary hydraulic pump.

I can only assume that your pto clutch is slipping you have two different discs in your clutch one for the transmission and one for the pto there is nothing else there except a shaft going out the rear coming from a reduction sounds like adjustment may be an option look through the post and find one from Big Dean and he can give you the exact procedure as well as he has a whole line of CD-ROM for MF tractors which if you are going to keep the tractor I would recomend buying. Plus he is a real genuine nice fella.
