I can't seem to locate the fill plug for the steering box, and neither the owners manual nor the shop manual has the information. I know there is no drain plug; why can't I drill and tap where the bottom power steering hose would attach to create a drain point? I am familiar with a TO30, but I'm still in training with my "new"(1968 MF135 4cyl gas) tractor.

Thank you guys! I looked that box over several times and I guess the fill plug would've bit me if it had teeth. I've got one of those oil suction/fill pumps with hoses on each end; perhaps I'll get lucky and won't need to dissemble anything to drain and refill it. I bought the tractor last fall, then COPD/asthma got me down and I could'nt do anything to it. I still wonder why the MF shop manual didn't have the info.

Hi Ray;
The manual for my T0-35 indicates that one of the four housing top cover bolts is the location used to fill the housing. The bolts are not accessible while the housing is still on the tractor, if I remember correctly.
I may have a bit more on this in some notes. Email me if you'd like me to look further.
Roger

Looks like you're not the only one that doesn't know where the fill plug is. Maybe you can fill the box thru a bolt hole near the top.

Page 7, para 8 of the I&T manual...

The recommended lubricant for steering gear on all models is SAE 90, mineral gear lubricant. Housing capacity is approximately one quart. On model MF135, filler plug is located on top, front of steering gear housing and lubricant is maintained at level of left rear, side cover attaching cap screw.
