Hi all,

I ahve the opportunity to buy what I believe to be an MF35. It is in running condition, though the brakes are poor and it has a leek that from what I can tell from research on this site is from the "weep" hold and is transmission/hydraulic fluid (?). It has a post hole digger, back blade, and a middle buster. Tires look good. I can buy it for $2,000 with no problem and could probably haggle a bit lower. From reading this site, the brakes and transmission/PTO fixes are not simple or cheap.

i would greatly appreciate any advice you might be able to offer.

Thanks,

Tony

If you have even average mechanical abilitys, the job wouldnt be too bad, prob. just a seal. I thought I had to do a brake job on my MF 65 till one day this past fall I accidently drove it for about 5 miniutes with the brakes on. It must have worn some of the glaze off, they work pretty good now ! If the rest of the tractor was nice I'd buy.

Nah, it ain't no good, where did you say it was again? :o)
Brakes shouldn't be that big of a deal, I put some on my old bosses 2000 Ford and they were not bad at all. Fixing the leak shouldn't be that major of a job as long as its only the seal. I don't think I would be afraid of it especially for that price and you get stuff to go on it ta boot! Just me talking here though, where did you say it was again????? ???

To fix the leak, you will have to split the tractor, but for $2K or less, I think that would be OK if I were buying. I like the 3 cylinder Perkins diesel best, followed by gas and then the 4 cylinder Standard diesel. If you buy this thing for under 2K with the leak and it has the Perkins engine, I think you are getting a very good buy - assuming you can fix it yourself.

You'd have to split the tractor to replace the tranny input shaft seal if it's tran-hyd fluid, but if that's all thats wrong and the 3pt is strong, I'll buy it if you don't.

Look at other posts for Big Dean's site. He has a section on what to look for when buying a used tractor.

Good luck
