I was told this might be a 3point hitch cylinder for a Massey tractor. Anybody ever seen anything like it?

I have one on my M-H 30 Row Crop. It is mounted under the seat and attaches to a rocker shaft which in turn operates the up and down movement of the schuffler. My tractor was manufactured in 1952.

Yes it is like the one that I took off my Mustang was for the TPH. Mine had been changed to use a remote Valve by plugging the ports with a plate fo steel.

This is a cylinder & valve assembly for a "Depth-o-matic" MH implement control, part number 763905M91, predating the hitch-all 3-point. It is recognizable by the integrated cylinder & valve, the shape of the valve handle, and the depth adjutment rod. Also visible are the clevis plates & rear cylinder support rod, exactly from the depth-o-matic.

Gavin, you called it correct. It was depth-o-matic
on the 30, 44, modified on some later 33's. With
all of it's diversity, you could replumb it to do
almost anything hydraulic, in 1950. A bypass line was available to run back to the pump. Popular to
run the cultivator lift shaft. Of course someone
figured this should be integrated into a 3 P.H.,
but except for a 22 or 30, it was a burden to the
early design. That simple valve was about a 15
minute job, to replace the old 'O' rings. Great
tractors to preserve.

This cylinder ran the rock shaft on a 33or 44 MH tractor

Cowman, that appears to be the hyd lift cylinder for either a pony or pacer tractor. Not exactly a 3pt, but what they used any way. :)
