Hi guys. I have an 8 speed 175 that is stuck in what i think is #3 foreward. The high/low lever still works, and the shift lever goes between gears, but they won't change. I have a forward speed in either high or low range, but no reverse. I'm familiar with working on a 65, and getting it un-stuck, but I don't have a clue on this 175. Can anyone offer advice? Thanks in advance, David.

Sounds like you could have a broken selector fork. There were about 3 different versions of the 8x2 box, you can tell which one it is by which gear is in the 'middle' position on the stick, I think it is 2nd 3rd and 4th which could be in the middle. It's not easy to get inside as you need to get the steering box off. Watch out for the selector springs when you take the top off - they can stick to the lid and then drop off..

Thanks for the input. I got the tractor to take a forward and reverse gear, but it seems like the main gear is sliding up and down the shaft pretty much at will. It will go into a forward gear, but the gear doesn't come back when I shift to reverse. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm at a loss here, I just hope it isn't anything expensive, thanks, David.

Not familiar with the 175, but does she have an oil fill cap near the gear selector sticks? If so see if you can remove it & use a bar to move the gears inside. This is a really bad description of what any 135 owner has to do when the worn selectors get out of line. I have to do it occasionally if i'm not carefull going from first to reverse.Good luck
