My massey just died yesterday and i suspect a timing chain may have broke if it has one. Does anyone know much about these engines (4 cyl)
The distributor is not turning but the shaft is not broke. I do not have a manual for this tractor. We use it regularly on our hobby farm. We wonder if this is worth fixing(finding parts) or start looking for another tractor.
What do you think?

you have a gear no chain and yes it worth fixen. and for sure if it's a row crop and if your close and don't fix hit me with a price. as to getting parts no sweet about 3 to 4 hr. repair job. pull hood and grill, radiator, fan , two bolts that hold front of engine down. [6 bolts at rear on the drive shaft, jack engine 1/4 in. in the front [[[[and save and do not mix up the shimes under the front of the engine ]]]]] and pull front pully then cover and you should see whats busted. but first check if your valve train is working if it is then it's just your dist.the might be bad wore out gear. pin out of gear, broken shaft

Thanks, sounds like it might not be to hard to take apart. The dist. is ok, is there a cam shaft inside this engine that turns the dist. Can the valves get bent like some cars when the timing belt breaks on cars.

one more thing do you have a hyd. pump on this tractor? if so the cam gear runs it and they some times brake the cam shaft then you have to pull the engine down to replace the cam
