Hello, I have a 101jr and the serial plate is rusted beyond recognition.Would the number be located anywhere else on the tractor? Also, where would the engine serial # be located?
Thanks in advance for any help,I'm not familiar at all w/masseys but would like to restore it. Robert

The engine serial number would be on a tin plate on the engine but it is not of much use, other than it would designate which engine size you have, either the 124 or 140 cubic inch version (same engine, different cylinder bores). Since the tin plate on the chassis is not readable, the number is also hand-stamped into the UPPER machined surface of the transmission/differential housing. More specifically on that upper surface, between the transmission shift lever plate (casting which has the 1,2,3,etc. #'s on it) and the rear steel cover plate (covering the rear end gears). So between those two covers to the left side in the vicinity of the clutch pedal. They are not deeply stamped and are probably filled with paint and crud so get a good wire brush and a scraper. It will be there for sure, post it here and someone will ID it for you. By the way, are the original sidecovers wtill on the tractor or are they missing?

Alberta Mike,Thank You for the information.I have found the serial number:399633 a 1943.
The original side curtains are missing.I think the grill can be saved. The tractor is in rough shape but I see the engine parts are readily available.I just need to find the sheet metal.
