I have a massey ferguson 65 serial #661031. I think it is a 1959 model. It has been stalling out on me lately. I have been using it this winter to move snow with the back blade and when the blade is pulling snow the engine will cut out on me. Today I was able to pull some snow and then the same problem happened and then it would stall out even when I wasn't pulling snow. Also what kind of oil should I be putting in the engine? Can anyone help? Thanks Steve O

Steve, my MF65 would sometimes stall while I too was moving snow. In my case it was something simple, I've started using dry gas and the problem has gone away. The first thing to check is your fuel supply system. Mine was fairly easy to figure out, I could tell by the way it was acting just before it quit running that it was probley not getting fuel. As for engine oil, I run a diesel engine oil. Use one of the brand name oils and you can't go wrong. Start with the simple things then work into the major headaches if that fails.

We have one too, and about the same age. Ours did the same thing. It felt like it would just quit when you asked it to work.
We had had the engine rebuilt so we sort of suspected a fuel problem. We cleaned and coated the tank, replaced the fuel bowl, shielded the fuel line (vaporlock), and finaly rebuilt the carburator. All of these things helped a bit.
We were trying to mow when we noticed a vibration and a knock. We could mow about 25 feet and it would lay down on us.
We got it to a different service man and discovered that the reason it was dieing was the crank was binding. The rod caps had not been resized and the crankshaft bearings had just been slapped in with no consideration to fit. Aditionaly the knock we heard was the oil pump which fell off and was in the pan on removal for inspection. (maybe 20 hours on that $5500 rebuilt motor)
Just paying someone to do the work does not mean it is done.
If it is dieing you could have a power train failure, or not, but a oil pan gasket is cheap, consider looking before the damage is done.
Also go to Dean's website and read the material he has. The guy is one smart fellow.
