my 135 does not have power steering and i have a problem with sharp turns. When the wheels are cut for tight turns, they lock in the max turn position, and won't return unless i really lean into the steering wheel. I don't see any loose bearings or tire ends, but think it may be related to a problem in these somewhere. anyone have any ideas?

Something to check is the pin and bush for the centre pivot of the axle. You don't say if the tractor is the early bent axle model or the later straight axle type. The following applies to the bent axle model. They usually only have 1 bush. Here in NZ most people fit 2 bushes, one in each side of the axle. This helps keep the axle set at the correct angle and helps the steering. If you have the straight axle model check the bushes and pin also.

Ray, what you said is very true. "Never wrap your thumbs around the steering wheel!." After seeing a hand specialist 5 times and paying through the teeth my thumb was finally repaired.

Check toe-in. The parameters measured at the horiziontal center line comparing front and back of tire width measurment is: exactly the same to 1/4" less in the front. Manual steering seems to have this condition on about all older Ferguson tractors. Remember the rule: "never wrap your thumbs around the steering wheel!." More than one thumb has been broken by the front wheels suddenly turning to lock.

Kevin, Do you apply the brake in the direction you are turning, when making sharp turns? That is important to take a lot of strain off of the steering apparatis. alvinnms
