The setting is 105-110lb ft. The bolts on the head are 7/16 not 3/8 like the perkins 3 cyl so you can apply this torque in contrast to the 65lb ft of the 3 cyl. Be sure to work from the centre of the head outwards and toward each end when undoing and tightening. Also check the protrusion of the sleeves above the block. It should be about 4 thou.

Kev Just a thought. These 23 C motors are supposed to develop 450psi of compression and high compression in this motor is critical. Take a look at what your TDC piston protrusion ( from block height to piston crown) is after measuring sleeve height. Mine was about -14 thou and its now a little hard to start You should have say -10 thou and a valve height( head surface to valve face ) of about 60 thou . My problem was pistons made just too short
How long have you had the TO35?. Im moving from Australia to Washington DC soon and wondered what the 23C engine TO35s ( say 1956-58) cost in restoreable condition. Ive done my English FE35 with 23c engine, a tea 20 and several MF35X tractors with the 3 cyl perkins here in Australia.
