Regarding your overheating problem, check the impellor in the water pump. I have struck problems before that the impellor blades wear over time. While the motor doesn't overheat in light work when working hard the pump may not be circulating enough water to assist the cooling.
While breathing and use of oil shouldn't cause a problem the system could still be blocked. You say the system was flushed but were the radiator tanks removed or the engine frost plugs taken out. While the systemwas flushed without the above being done there could still be blockages.

First of all never run without a themostat always use the right temperature thermostat along with the correct pressure radiater cap without these two little items your cooling system is not cooling properly your thermostat and cap are what lets your engine run 225 degrees without boiling so enough of my soapbox.

I have a MF-65 and fought the same thingm, you take a empty pop bottle or glass and fill it with water then take a rubber hose connect it to your over flow tube on your radiator get the tractor up to operating temperature and place the hose in the bottle of water if you start seeing bubbles you have a cracked head or gasket. This is what happened to me my tractor would only overheat when it was really working on a warm day (brushogging) I replaced everything to the tune of about 500 dollars when my headgasket didn't seat quite right and was leaking compression into the water jacket. I don't mean to sound all doom and gloom it is a fairly easy test and it will rule out anything major if you do indeed have bubbles post me back and I will tell you how to proceed

Tried your water bottle/tube test.Had a constant stream of air bubbles through tube. Also on removing radiator cap water level rising and falling constantly with air bubbles easily seen.Have no water oil contamination.I await the bad news. Thanks again.

Sorry it is bad you have either a cracked head or gasket What is happening is your piston is pushing compression into your water jacket. First thing to do is get the head off look for obvious cracks or discolored spots on both the head or the gasket. Next if you can't find any send the head out to be magnafluxed and pressure checked if they find nothing wrong have them surface the head it cost me 35 dollars I think to have all this done. Get a new head gasket set you may want to go ahead and have the valves ground it is up to you I personally would because you have it apart and are buying new gaskets anyway When you go back together paint your head gasket with aluminum rustoleum paint and put it together follow your torque specs and pattern precisly let it sit for 24-36 hours before you start it. Your guilty cylinder may have quite a bit of carbon and grub in the top mine was leaking between number 2 and 3 on the gasket and all it was was me not getting the head to seal according to big Dean this is a problem with my particular motor (this is his remedy by the way and it did work)So I was out the price of two head gaskets because it didn't seal when I did the head the first time all in all I think I had about 500 bucks in getting the head done and gaskets twice I guess I should have asked if you hace ever done anything like this first I have left my email unblocked if you need to email me for more precise instructions.

I have replaced a head gasket before on an old Triumph.I will let you know how I get on.What are the torque settings for tightening the head bolts.?Thanks again.

You had better email Big Dean to find that if you don't have a manuel the settings on my 65 are 80 psi scroll through until you find a post form Big Dean he always leaves his website at the bottom of his posts he would be able to tell you

taken the head off.everythinglooks ok.Head gasket appears undamaged and head looks ok.Head being pressure tested and skimmed.the only other thing was that all the bolts etc were removed a little bit too easy.Could it be that they were not tightened up to the correct torque(by the way only bought this tractor 5 weeks ago). Will put it back together tomorrow. Also, checked water pump, its ok.

Have you cleaned the radiator fins? If no air can go through the radiator your going to be getting hot too. Just a thought, you probably allready checked that but it never hurts to mention it.

How much power are you drawing from the PTO? Might it be that you are overloading the poor thing slightly?

Do not run without the thermostat; it will not cool properly; circulates too fast.

i don't see why a thermostat would cause it to cool improperly. Fast circulation=better cooling, because water in radiator stays hotter, which means more heat is dissipated to air.

Fast circulation doesn't always mean better cooling. If the coolant is moving too quickly, it doesn't have time to pick up the heat from the cylinder walls, head etc. There is also the chance of water pump cavitation without proper system restriction, and air bubbles REALLY don't pick up the heat
