I am going to look at a Massey 165 tonight. My experiance is IH and JD, but I have read several links about what to look for when buying a used Massey's. I was wondering if there is any key items I need to look for. Also what is the weight of the 165.

Look for one with the 212 motor in it. If not sure when sitting on the seat the muffler is on the right hand side. This is the better engine. Either multi-power or std transmission will give you a good run. Also look for one with wet brakes. This model has square rear axle housings. The early dry brake models usually give more problems.

For some quick ideas as to what to look for, read through Big Dean's web site.

I don't recall how much I told you, but I haven't torn into it yet. The only real problem is I can't disengage the pto side of the clutch but then I haven't needed that part much. I mostly use the loader. When I do get into it I'm sure that I need to replace some seals as I know I do have some fluid leakage in addition to replacing the broken adjuster. I'll just have to wait and see what condition the rest of it is in when I get in there.
