Hi all. Last week I went to the Massey dealer and was looking at a Massey-35 diesel with live PTO high/low trans, The left rear wheel has like no tread left the right is not far behind. The left rear axel seal is leaking, no draw bar, The steering wheel has less than 1/8 wheel play, Has been sitting on there used lot for like 3or4 months. I called one of the sales men and he said he'd take $3000.00+tax stright sale. What do Ya'll think, would it be worth it? Right now I have 2 Allis Chalmers and I need something with live power and faster hydraulics. I think I gonna try and test drive it within the next few weeks, and see if everything in the tranney is ok. Thanks. Talk to ya'll later TractorMike

In my neck of the woods, central western VA, $3K for a MF 35 diesel is a very good buy. However, that is with the 3 cylinder Perkins diesel. Some of the older 35's came with a 4 cylinder Standard diesel and while I gather it is a good engine, I am to understand it is very hard to start. Also, avoid multipower as it is expensive to fix.

The 35 is one of the best tractors ever made. I think you will like it, even if you have to do a bit of work to it. Lots of parts available too. Check out Big Dean's web site for a description of what to lookout for when buying a used MF.

Good luck,
Bill

ps:
I know western NC - Haywood county, Canton, Clyde and Waynesville. Tobacco country!

This may sound a little silly but is there a difference between the multipower and the high/low range or are they the same thing? TractorMike

P.S. This tractor is at Haywood Tractor Co by Lake Junaluska. I really like Haywood Tractor because they got a good line of used equipment. I live in Big Sandy Mush just over the hill from Canton. I like going over there because it's alot less crowded than Asheville.

Hi Bill,
Yes there is a diffence between a multi power and the hi&low range. A multi power transmission gives you about 15 to 20 % extra power by moving a lever on the dash this is hydraulic. The hi & low range is at the back of the gearbox and is mechanical. A multi power box also has this feature. We built thousands of these multi powers in Coventry and they are very popular, however they can if not repaired correctly be a pain.I run a company here in the UK that specialises in the repair of transmissions produced for MF tractors in Banner Lane Coventry from 1946 to its closure in 2002. If you or any of your friends needs some help or a remanufactured gearbox give me an e-mail [email protected] we will be only too pleased to help you.
Regards Graham.

Mike,

This is mostly in response to your ps, I'm from Avery's Creek, south of Asheville, and know Sandy Mush well, too. I have a MF 202, which is the industrial version of the 35. I like it too, and paid $2,300, then about $700 for parts, last years. Good luck,

Regards

I've been looking for a tractor, and I looked at a MF202 with a loader. Is there anything I should look at in particular about this model. Iwas also wondering what the difference is in the industrial and regular tractor

You didn't give your location. Prices Seem to vary considerably depending on location. Does not sound too bad - gave $2,800 for mine here in Texas two years ago. Mine is gas in excellent shape. Question is do you plan on repairing it yourself or paying someone to fix.

Mike, the 35s with the 3cyl Perkins diesel are worth more and sell faster than the 4cyl conn. gas or diesel. alvinnms
