On my MF165 the rear wheel Differential has stuck in the on position, locking both rear wheels together. works great for gettin around the mud but makes almost impossible to turn the tractor. Looking for ideas on how to unstick this.

The differential lock hooks the two axle together with a dog type clutch. With one wheel moving faster than the other it will cause the dogs to bind in each other enough the spring cannot pull them apart. You can usually shake them loose by backing up while stomping the brake pedal. If this fails jack up the right wheel and shake it back & forth. If that will not unlock it the shaft that moves the dog in and out will rust & corrode if not used regularly causing that shaft to bind up.

Hey Big Dean Thanks for the advice, it didnt break the axles loose but it did get the brakes working again so it was worth the effort. I just recently bought this tractor and it looked great on the surface but I am starting to wonder what I'm gettin into, I seem to find a new problem everytime I use it. So far nothing that has been more than just an aggravation. So in my book thats a good thing. I have some more questions on this tractor that I will put in seperate post, so if you see my name please jump in and help this non mechanic out.
