I have a ford 8N and am wondering if a MF-50 would be a nice upgrde. I am mainly interested in more HP, live power, power steering, and safety. Any feedback ould be appreciated. Also any info on where I can learn more about the MF would be appreciated!

You might even consider a MF-65 if more HP is what you want. It's only slightly larger than the 8N, and is a heck of alot more tractor!

IMHO, while the 8N is a fine tractor, the MF50 is superior in that it is heavier, longer (and perhaps wider) which helps with stability. It has both position control and draft (as does the 8N), but should also have live PTO, which is great for brush hogging! Also, it will have more HP.

As for additional info, you should do a search on this site for both MF50 and MH50 which are the same tractor (as is the Ferguson F40). Also, look for a brochure on ebay for this tractor and get the MF manuals for parts, service and owners. And lastly, go to Big Dean's web site and order his CD too.

BTW, is this a gas or diesel?

I've got a MF50 diesel and it is a great tractor!

Good luck,
Bill

I have a 1957 MH50 that I have owned since 1988 and I would not consider trading it for half a dozen of the N series Fords. Much more tractor for not much more money. Mine has the two stage clutch and factory power steering. Mine has mostly seen PTO work since I got it, bushhog,1 row cornpicker, elevator, sicklemower, and baler. I was looking for a IH 300U or 350U but couldn't find 1 at the time but I have no regrets about buying the 50 the first Massey we ever owned. It is a gas tractor with the Cont.Z134 Nice tractors.
